Nathan Sollenberger, Adam Kimbler and Colleagues Publish a Study about the Role of Sleep in Emotion Habituation in Youth with Anxiety

Dr. Dana McMakin

Congratulations to Nathan Sollenberger, Adam Kimbler and coauthors for this recent publication entitled:

Sleep Depotentiates Amygdala Reactivity to Negative Stimuli in Youth with Elevated Symptoms of Anxiety

Recent studies suggest that sleep plays a role in depotentiating neural (e.g., amygdala) reactivity to aversive stimuli. Here, we extend this finding to youth, and also demonstrate that this effect is absent in youth with anxiety. Disruptions in sleep related affective habituation may be a critical, modifiable driver of anxiety in early adolescence.
