REMEDY Research Group Welcomes Incoming Graduate Student, Steve Suss

Dr. Dana McMakin
Director

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in psychology, Steve worked in several laboratories at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) as an interventionist, research assistant, and research coordinator. Work included investigations into the impact of mindfulness interventions, understanding the neural mechanism of emotional regulation in adolescent concussion, and how dysregulated sleep can impact the onset of mental health disorders. During this time, Steve also completed an M.S. in clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling at the University of Pittsburgh. Steve's research interests largely surround the utilization of neuroimaging to inform future interventions for at-risk adolescents and those struggling with emotion regulation; specifically, how specific aspects of mindfulness, such as curiosity, can be utilized to improve their functioning and quality of life.
